Sporting Memories Network support older people across the UK living with dementia, depression and in social isolation by engaging them in social activities and helping them to recall memories of watching or playing sport. By sharing memories of sporting moments and tapping into a passion for sport they help people to connect with others and with their past, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that otherwise may remain hidden.
Here is a poster Leeds Central Library for their new session which happens every Thursday at Leeds Central Library in the Tiled Hall Café 11 am until 12 noon. It is free for people to attend and anyone over the age of 50 is welcome. They actively encourage family carers to attend and get involved in these sessions too.
The six day festival hosted by Bradford UNESCO City of Film in partnership with Picturehouse at the National Science and Media Museum will run from Saturday 30 September.
It features Dementia Friendly performances particularly on the Wednesday which is jive day with a screening of Jailhouse Rock – Dementia Friendly, but open to all – and a lively jiving session hosted by Marie McCahery from the local Lindyhop to get everyone in the fifties mood- all at Picturehouse. This is followed in the evening with classic comedy at the Bradford Club. The historic venue is opening its doors to the public for a triple bill of slapstick fun from Laurel and Hardy.
Johnstone’s Trade are taking their highly popular “creating dementia friendly environments” seminar to Yorkshire
The seminar is perfect for asset, property or estate managers from within a broad range of organisations including NHS, social housing and care providers. It will also provide a fantastic overview for architects, designers and main contractors who would like to know more about dementia friendly design and how it could be implemented in current and future projects.
This FREE half day seminar will cover a wide range of topics which if followed correctly should create an enhanced environment for those living with dementia. There will be a range of expert speakers in attendance talking about how their products and services create “dementia friendly environments”. Leeds Bereavement Forum’s next Basic Bereavement Skills Training held in partnership with Leeds City Council will be held on Wednesday 6 September from 12.45pm to 4pm at Enterprise House.
This three-hour session introduces you to some of the basic theories about the grieving process and coming to terms with loss. It provides an opportunity for you to explore these ideas and develop your skills and awareness in a small group.

Sarah Goodyear – ‘Support Leeds’ dementia friendly Campaign Officer
There will also be stalls with relevant information (dementia adventure, Carers Leeds, Advonet, Care & Repair, Leeds Alternative Travel, Alzheimers memory support workers, Butterfly transport/care).
